WOW, is the word that comes to mind when I see this artist's work. Jupita's is an amazing Etsy store where you can buy upcycled handmade Jewelry and art. I am honored to be able to host this giveaway and you will feel the same if you win one of these bracelets. There is also a story and inspiration behind the artwork by Jennifer who is the creator of this exquisite jewelry and art work. Jennifer gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Othello who was born with a rare condition called gastroschisis. This is when a child is born with the intestines outside the body. At nine months old Othello under went a five organ transplant a new stomach, liver, spleen, pancreas and small intestine, this transplant gave Othello fourteen more months of life. Othello then passed away July 1st 2004. Being a mother I cant imagine the pain from losing a child and I don't think anyone else who has not had to endure this kind of tragedy could. Jennifer took her creativity with jewelry, sculpting and drawing to bring awareness to transplants and other families going through the same thing she did. The cost of this transplant was more then her family could afford and the insurance would not cover the entire cost, so Jennifer's family contacted the Children's Organ Transplant Association where they gave them the stepping stones to start fundraising for Othello's organ transplant. This kind of cost is unjust to any family that has to face the possible loss of a child and so Jennifer who has been in the exact situation now donates the money she makes from her Jewelry, sculptures and art to help these families in need of financial assistance. Over the last month I have been able to have a few conversations with Jennifer about her goals and have found an amazing person behind the scene. She is now the mother of toddling twins and knowing how much work it is when you have a toddler, she still finds a little time to whip up this beautiful Jewelry having two toddlers. Jennifer's jewelry is one of a kind and being recycled from plastic gift cards make them that more intriguing. I spent a little time looking around in her store to see all the designs she has come up with and wondered why she hasn't gone global with her amazing jewelry. I wanted to show you a few pieces that are my favorite and then you can head on over to Jennifer's Jupita shop and check it out for yourself. This necklace displayed on the right is one of my most favorite and I love how it brings definition to the neckline and then draws your attention in to the center of the chest. What an amazing piece. I am also showing a sculpture from her other store Drops of Jupita where she has her sculptures and art work listed. This piece on the left is a bracelet made of gift cards in the shape of guitar picks and I love how she displayed it on top of her art work. Jennifer has also decided to not only giveaway a bracelet which will be the giveaway for this month but also she will be donating a piece from her Drops of Jupita shop next month. She will be giving away one of her bracelets this month to one lucky reader and then next month she will be sculpting a piece for one lucky reader as well. Jennifer needs your help to bring awareness to the life saving of transplants and the needs of families that are going through the same financial burden she once endured. Jennifer is also going to let the winner of this drawing pick the bracelet of their choice and with the designs she has listed in her Jupita store, this will be a fabulous giveaway. You can learn more about transplants and how you can help by visiting Othello's www.othellosmithfoundation.tk foundation page and read more about how one family helped out another in their time of grief.

Hey Roxie, I like the colors in snowflakes in Summer--I would choose that one if I win. I love the hungry catapillar necklace too--very cute.
ReplyDelete1 Fact I learned about COTA is it stands for: Children's Organ Transplant Association and that they have helped family's with the expenses of organ transplants for over 20 years. I have friends whose daughter is on a list to be helped by COTA--She suffers from a disease called systenosis (think I spelled it right) . Someday she will need an organ transplant and her mom works very closely with COTA raising money for OTHER CHILDREN so that when it is her daughters turn, she will feel like she has paid it forward. God Bless all those who help support COTA. (BTW--I have given funding to COTA in the past, wonderful organization).

Wow! I love the gingerbread gift card bracelet. Very clever. I learned on unos that there were over 11,000 transplantations from January to May of this year. It is really important to let your family know that you want to be a donor! parodi821 at yahoo dot com
